Celebrate National Lumberjack Day at our first ever Lumberjack Lounge! This fireside chat brings members of our community with a love of the land to lead a discussion about their area of expertise, providing an interactive opportunity to learn something new and unexpected. Have a snack, have a drink, and relax by the fire while showing off your favorite flannel.

Roger Wing carving a large hunk of wood with a chainsaw on the stump of a tree in an outdoor grassy courtyard. Our inaugural Lumberjack will feature a chat and chainsaw wood-carving demo by world-renowned sculptor Roger Wing.

Roger Wing began his journey as a sculptor in a wood carving class at college 36 years ago.  Over the decades he has made numerous excursions to explore other materials such as stone, ice, snow, and sand, but Wing always returns to his primary material, wood.  For Wing, wood is the medium most like our own flesh.  It grows over a comparable lifespan, experiences injuries and healing, and is influenced by the conditions of its environment, much like our own bodies.  Our own stories and those of the trees are intertwined.  The act of carving wood is slow and methodical, serving the sculptor as a meditation on the tree, his own life, how they are related, and what new expressions their combined energies can reveal to the world.
